If blockchain is the future - and by the looks of it, it can be an attractive solution for many things - Slovenia should welcome blockchain firms, which have smart employees and have the potential create a lot of value added in the future.

Cryptocurrencies, on the other hand, are not a healthy part of the business. The state should treat them as a new type of securities and regulate them accordingly, the paper says in The Path to Cryptoparadise.

But in regulating, it should be careful not to kill the simplicity of the raising of funds, the same simplicity of ICOs that has allowed Slovenian start-ups to raise almost a hundred million euro.

Indeed, serious crypto-companies are not interested in working in an unregulated Wild West, and this is where Slovenia has the opportunity to act smartly.

Just as in many other areas, it makes sense to imitate Switzerland rather than China, the paper concludes.
