The Nutcracker is a well known Christmas story. Choreographer Youri Vamos presents his vision of the fairytale Christmas story written by Charles Dickens. The story took place in 19th century London, where heartless and tightwad moneylender Scrooge hates the holiday atmosphere, but of course, at the end, he is overcome by the magical whirl of Christmas. That story is interlaced with the emotional and poetic musical score of Tschaikowsky, whose ballets are among the most popular ones in this genre of music - Swan Lake for example. The ballet can be seen on December 13th, 16th and 30th (starting at 19.30) with soloists Anton Bogov and Ana Klasnja. On December 24th (16.00), 31st (19.30) and January 6th (19.30) the soloists will be Regina Krizaj Babaci and new member Denis Firsov of the famous Kirov ballet ensemble from St. Petersburg. The third group of guests, who will dance on December 19th and 20th, will come from the German Opera on the Rhine - Yusuke Osozawa and Aleksej Afanasiev, accompanied by a local member Ana Klasnja. Lovers of light opera will be able to enjoy an amusing story Bat by Richard Strauss jr., which presents the luxury and cheerful lifestyle of the Viennese middle classes. A lot of twists and turns and intrigues occur in this story. Masks and sumptuous costumes are necessary for this operetta, as well as a short ballet and drama about the drunken keeper by Boris Ostan and Uros Smolej. The last part of December's offerings is La Traviata (directed by Lutz Hochstraate), an opera by the greatest Italian composer Guiseppe Verdi. The libretto was based on a novel by Alexandre Dumas and presents a love story with a lot of emotion as well as a social critique. For timings of the show check out the next page.
