Trade union group calls for continuing pay talks

The group expects "a quick, sober, rational and constructive approach to continuing negotiations with the aim of reaching an agreement".

Trade unions argue in a letter to Cerar, and Dejan Židan and Karl Erjavec, the leaders of the junior coalition SocDems and Pensioners' Party (DeSUS), that the government still has full powers.

The government will take on the caretaker role when parliament gets acquainted with the PM's resignation, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

The unions thus urge the government to make good on its commitments given to public sector employees in 2016 and enable the next government an easier start of term.

Otherwise, the new government will have to immediately start tackling the situation in the public sector.

According to the trade unions, this government is responsible for the situation because it made "separate deals which favour certain professional groups".
