AmCham want regulator to decide on takeover of Pro Plus

The US chamber of commerce in Slovenia noted in a press release on Friday that it had welcomed yesterday's media reports about the AVK approving the takeover after several months of deliberation.

It was a negative surprise to learn later in the day that the watchdog actually has not made its final decision yet, AmCham Slovenia added.

The chamber had expected a decision "in line with the European and Slovenian legislation" which would "finally enable the entry of another successful American investment in Slovenia".

"Lengthy procedures mean a lot of uncertainty and doubt for investors who are ready to actively participate in the procedure and who take positive commitments. They don't know if they are going to be treated equally and in line with laws," it added.

According to AmCham, Slovenia is losing its reputation of a law-governed state and the impression that it is open for foreign investment.

It thus wants the AVK to take the decision as soon as possible, so that the trust of investors is not undermined any further. The chamber would not like to see the matter resolved in court, as this could have "very bad consequences for Slovenia, even in the long run".

"We believe that Slovenia is really a law-governed state which treats investors equally and is open to them, as this brings new jobs and opportunities," AmCham concluded.
