The president's office said that the visit was an opportunity to deepen bilateral political and business ties, adding that the relations between Slovenia and Slovakia were excellent, with trade increasing every year.

Last year, trade between the countries amounted to EUR 989.3m, with Slovenia exporting EUR 499.9m to Slovakia, according to the Izvozno okno import-export info website.

Pahor and Kiska will also discuss the EU and its future and the situation in the Western Balkans, including the EU accession prospects of the countries in the region within the context of the recently presented enlargement strategy of the EU.

The presidents are also expected to discuss regional cooperation and Slovenia's relations with the Visegrad Group, which is currently presided by Slovakia and also features the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

One of the highlights of the visit will be a Slovenian-Slovakian business conference, co-organised by the SPIRIT investment promotion agency, which will also be attended by Kiska and Pahor.

The aim of the conference is to present the country's business environment and start-up ecosystems, discuss business opportunities and hold meetings between Slovenian and Slovak companies.

The event will discuss ICT, smart technologies, start-up systems and innovation, energy and energy solutions, environmental technologies, construction and wood processing, and food industry, according to SPIRIT.
