Tusk was on a tour of the Western Balkans last week with stops in Tirana, Podgorica, Belgrade, Sarajevo and Skopje. In Macedonia's capital he attended a summit of the Brdo-Brijuni process of regional cooperation, which has been initiated by Slovenia and Croatia.

Tusk is due in Slovenia only days after the European Commission holds an oral hearing in a procedure launched by Slovenia against Croatia over its refusal to implement the border arbitration decision.

The president of the European Council last visited Slovenia at Cerar's invitation in April last year. The talks focused on the EU's future, Brexit and the situation in the Western Balkans.
