Slovenia secured the EUR 109m through a Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) blending call. The funds will be used for the construction of 16.7 km of tunnels needed for a second track to the Koper port.

The estimated costs of the entire project have been standing at around a billion euro.

The CEF funds had been frozen in the face of the referendums on the act governing the project. The act was cleared again in the 13 May referendum.

The agreement on the phasing of the funds will be signed today by the representatives of 2TDK and INEA, while Prime Minister Miro Cerar and European Commission Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc will also be on hand.
