Tourism growth persists, over 2m overnight stays recorded in Q1
While the quarter one figures released in April last year put the number of overnight stays at 1.9m and the number of tourist arrivals at 740,000, the total figures reported for the first three months of 2018 in line with the new methodology are 2.16m and 822,000.
Foreign guests contributed 1.27m of the overnights stays and 517,000 of the arrivals.
Italian guests accounted for 17.4% of the overnight stays by foreigners in the first quarter. They were followed by Croatians (14%), Austrians (11%), Serbians (7.5%), Germans (5.7%), Hungarians (5.4%), and the Brits (3.5%).
A look at the number of total overnight stays in Ljubljana in the first three months also confirms the continuing growth. Over 256,000 were recorded by the new methodology, while 201,000 were reported after the first quarter of last year.
Spa resorts continue to generate the highest number of overnight stays, with the combined figure for the first three months being 717,000.
