Annual banking conference to focus on MiFID and crediting trends
New EU rules entered into force at the start of the year which build on the lessons of the recent crisis to seek more transparency, effectiveness and resilience on financial markets and strengthen investor protection.
The government adopted the relevant bill in February but parliament did not get around to passing it before the general election, which means it will have to be filed again by the new government.
The other major topic at the conference is bank credit activity in what is a period of cheap money and improved bank balance sheets after the bailouts.
According to Banka Slovenije, a slowdown of the positive lending trend is felt above all for households. Demand for loans however still remains high.
The conference will also feature Primož Dolenc, who is currently leading the Slovenian central bank, and Finance Minister Vraničar Erman. Also on hand will be NLB bank head Blaž Brodnjak and Gorenjska Banka CEO David Benedek.
