According to the Statistics Office, data cannot be compared to last year's figures because of a changed methodology in data collection.

Foreign visitors numbered almost 678,000 in July, accounting for more than 1.9 million nights or 77% in that month.

Visitors from Germany accounted for 13% of the nights, Dutch tourists for 10%, those from Belgium and the Czech Republic for 7%, while Italians and Austrians accounted for 6% each.

Hotels registered 37% of the nights, campsites 21%, apartments and holiday villages 18%, private accommodation such as rental rooms and flats for 6% and youth hostels for 5%.

Most tourists spent the night at alpine (35%), seaside (23%) and spa municipalities (16%) and in Ljubljana (13%).

The Statistics Office collects data on the basis of a new register of accommodation facilities and the new eTourism system. These include all facilities, including those with fewer than 10 beds.

As a result, the monthly statistics had been expanded from 2,000 facilities last year to more than 5,000 in March. The impact of the change on the first quarter figures is estimated at 10 percentage points.

Statistics released in July 2017 showed that almost 680,000 visitors spent over 1.87 million nights at tourism accommodation facilities that month.
