Slovenia favours global solution to digital economy taxation
Since EU finance ministers failed to reach a consensus on how to approach the taxation of the digital economy, solutions will now be sought by experts before the ministers meet again to discuss the topic before the end of this year, the ministry said on Saturday.
Another topic on the agenda was opportunities and risks stemming from the new blockchain technology and crypto currencies, where Slovenia advocates technological innovation, but believes the EU should also introduce a regulatory framework to secure oversight.
This would enable companies in the EU to use financial innovations to provide new products, while consumers and investors would enjoy a high degree of security, according to the ministry.
The two-day informal meeting in the Austrian capital was the last such meeting outgoing Minister Vraničar Erman attended as minister.
She will be succeeded by Andrej Bertoncelj when the new Marjan Šarec government is appointed and sworn in, expectedly next week.
