This is a rise of 5.1% over the end of 2017 and double the number of online bank service users more than ten years ago, Slovenian central bank data shows.

The number of bank clients using online services doubled from 2004 to 2007 only to double again by 2015, but the growth has slowed down somewhat since.

The number of payments made online has hovered around 26 million per quarter for a while.

This makes for more than 100 million payments made online within Slovenia every year and another three million to accounts abroad.

In 2017, the total value of online payments reached EUR 240m, data from Banka Slovenije's Bulletin publication shows.

The pioneer in offering online banking for individuals in Slovenia was SKB Banka, which launched the service under the trademark SKB Net in September 1997.

NLB, the largest bank in the country, followed suit with NLB Klik in 1999, whereas online banking services are now offered by practically all banks in Slovenia.
