The Obir Stalactite Caves in the Austrian municipality of Bad Eisenkappel come in second with approximately 30,000 visitors, followed by the abandoned Peca lead mine in Mežica with 20,000 visitors, roughly on par with the year before, Karavanke Geopark told the STA.

The Geopark Information Centre in Bad Eisenkappel received around 7,000 visitors, while between May and October 2018, around 3,000 people took part in guided hikes. This is more than in 2017, when around 1,200 guests attended the guided tour.

Karavanke Geopark extends over 1,067 km2 in 14 Slovenian and Austrian municipalities and has been part of the UNESCO Geopark Network since November 2015.

Since hiking is becoming an increasingly popular form of recreation, the park will continue to develop this segment, including by offering cross-border hikes that will be available throughout the year. In January this year, some guided winter snowshoe tours were already conducted.
