Erjavec says his party to run independently in EU vote
"I can say very clearly we're not considering heading to the Euro polls with the SAB or SMC. We will run independently, with our candidates, so this discussion is pointless," he said in Brussels.
His comments come after the leaders of the Modern Centre Party (SMC) and Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB), Miro Cerar and Bratušek, indicated they were open to inviting DeSUS to join them in their joint appearance in the election after the Party of PM Marjan Šarec opted out yesterday.
Erjavec, who was speaking on the sidelines of a NATO ministerial, said that DeSUS's incumbent MEP Ivo Vajgl was one of the candidates but that the party was yet to pick the frontrunning candidate.
"We will have registered candidates by the end of February and then we will enter the phase of candidate confirmation. The matter is open for now," he said.
In Late January Erjavec told the STA that Vajgl would most likely be DeSUS's top candidate. At the time he also noted that DeSUS was the only liberal party in Slovenia with an MEP.
