UNESCO confirmed Slovenia's initiative in November 2018 and the proposal will now be put to the organisation's executive committee, which meets in April. The final confirmation is expected at an UNESCO conference in November.

Pikalo held the talks on the margins of an international conference on artificial intelligence in Paris, where he presented Slovenia's experience in the field at one of the main panels.
