The festival, traditionally held around 16 May, commemorates the date in 1905, when the mayor of Ljubljana Ivan Hribar purchased Ljubljana Castle on behalf of the city from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy for 60,200 Kronen.

The Castle Days festival will feature creative workshops for children, a so called 'search for the dragon's treasure', a medieval encampment, and a knights tournament.
