Jobless total drops by 3.4% to under 74,000 in April

A total of 4,962 persons registered as newly unemployed, a 1.2% decrease on March and a 5.2% drop from April 2018. The majority, some 2,800, registered after their fixed term contracts expired.

Job vacancies in the first four months totalled 50,809, a 5.2% year-on-year increase.

Out of the 7,530 persons deleted from the unemployment registry in April, 5,900 got employed or self-employed, which is almost 22% less than in March and almost 9% less than in April 2018.

Unemployment was down in all units of the Employment Service around the country, both on the monthly and annual levels.

The biggest drop on the monthly level was recorded in Ptuj and Murska Sobota in the north east of the country (-5.7%), while in annual comparison, the biggest drop was recorded in Novo Mesto in the south east (-10.2%).

The average number of jobless persons in the first four months of the year was 78,500, which is 5.8% less than in the same period in 2018.

According to the latest data by the Statistics Office, Slovenia's active population numbered 884,685 in February, which is 0.4% more than in January and a 3.3% rise year-on-year.

The registered unemployment rate dropped to 8.4% in February, standing at 7.8% for men and at 9.0% for women. Murska Sobota had the highest unemployment rate (at 13.9%) and Kranj the lowest (at 5.6%).
