The first Pride Parade in Ljubljana was organized in 2001 to commemorate the riots against the police raid at New York City's Stonewall Inn in 1969 and as a response to narrow-minded and offensive behaviour on the part of the staff at one of Ljubljana's catering outlets.

Since 2001, the Ljubljana Pride has been an annual event bringing together large numbers of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals from Slovenia and abroad.

The seventeenth Festival Pride Parade will feature a series of events to highlight the themes intersex people, historical memory, peer violence and other relevant topics.
