The redeveloped area in front on Trbovlje's main post office will be "a meeting point of the city's rich history, positive present and promising future", the city said.

Monolith, a high-tech installation by Maša Jazbec, will enable visitors to engage in interactive communication, showing faces of Trbovlje people merging one into another.

"We are happy the Trbovlje Monolith is the only open-air monolith in Slovenia and beyond," the municipality said in a press release before tonight's launch.

Famous artists from Trbovlje will get their own special benches in the park, apart from Laibach and Kovač, also actress Tanja Ribič, pilot and photographer Matevž Lenarčič and poet Uroš Zupan.

The sixth bench is yet to get its artist, as well as its quote, as every artist honoured with a bench chose a statement deer to them that has been inscribed on it.

The cultural benches are said to be environment friendly as they produce energy to charge mobile phones.

The oasis will also feature a touch screen with info about various spots of cultural interest around the city, and a charging station for electric vehicles and bicycles.

It will be launched with a show accompanied by visuals. Culture Minister Zoran Poznič, who ran Trbovlje's cultural centre before becoming minister, will deliver the key-note.

The city said the project had been partly funded by the EU programme Interreg Slovenia Croatia.
