Slovenia generated a surplus in foreign exchange of goods in four of the first five months in 2019, all months expect in April.

Nevertheless, its total deficit in this period amounted to EUR 61.3 million, the Statistics Office (SURS) said as it released the latest trade figures on Wednesday.

Its exports in May were also higher than in May 2017, with exports amounting to EUR 2.95 billion and imports to EUR 2.82 billion, up 10.6% and 4.7%, respectively.

"May's exports have been rising uninterruptedly for the past six years, with May's imports rising for the past four years," SURS said.

The export-import ratio in May reached 104.6%, as the country generated a surplus of EUR 128.49 million.

This is biggest monthly surplus in the first five months of 2019 and the biggest of May's three surpluses generated since 2010.

As a rule, Slovenia generates the majority of trade with EU members. May's exports and imports to EU countries accounted for 74.2% and 78.4% of May's overall exports and imports, respectively.
