The central event - traditional national costumes parade - brings together more than two thousand fans and connoisseurs of group-specific costumes. On Sunday at 15.00 visitors will see national costumes from different regions of Slovenia and even from foreign countries. This year, the parade will join participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Turkey, Kosovo, Bulgaria and Austria. This colourful parade is reason why The Guardian put the festival on the list of 20 great traditional festivals in Europe. On Sunday morning folk groups from mentioned countries will also perform on main stage on Glavni trg.

Visitor can enjoy in the tradition all days of festival. There are four exhibitions with cultural heritage. Visitors are welcomed in ex monastery Mekinje (Samostan Mekinje) Gallery above Veronika Café (Galerija nad Kavarno Veronika), Dika Gallery (Galerija Dika), exhibition area in Municipality Kamnik (Občina Kamnik). All exhibitions except in Municipality Kamnik are opened all days of festival

On the streets of medieval Kamnik visitors can enjoy traditional art and craft fair with demonstration of various traditional crafts (all days of festival on Šutna street), folk dance and music on main stage on Glavni trg (whole Saturday and Sunday), workshops for children (Saturday and Sunday in park near city centre - Park Evropa), dance workshop Wanna dance? (Saturdayon Šutna street) and street music (Friday afternoon, whole Saturday and Sunday morning).

ACROSS THE BORDER - Clothing heritage on the other side of the national border

The intense cultural impacts of various national communities that surround the national minorities contribute to the shaping of the clothing culture. The exhibit will display the clothing culture of Croatian minorities in neighbouring countries. Featured will be the selection of clothing from the collections of the Posudionica i radionica narodnih nošnji, (National costume rental and production workshop) and Folklorni ansambel Zagreb Markovac (Zagreb Markovac folklore ensemble).

Due to its size, the exhibition is divided between two areas, the second taking part in the Galerija nad Kavarno Veronika (Gallery above Veronica Café).

The exhibit opens Friday, 23 August, at 17:00. Visitors are invited to attend the exhibition until 20 September during Samostan Mekinje (Mekinje Monastery) business hours, i.e. Mondays 8:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00, Wednesdays 8:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00 and Fridays 8:00 to 13:00. Attendance by large groups outside working hours possible upon agreement. Between 6 and 8 September, the exhibition will be open between 10:00 and 18:00.

In collaboration with Cerar Clocksmith's celebrating its hundredth anniversary in 2019, antique pocket watches will also be exhibited.

Due to its size, the exhibition is divided between two areas, the first taking part at the Samostan Mekinje (Mekinje Monastery).

The exhibit opens Thursday, 5 September, at 18:00. The exhibition will be open until 8 September every day between 10:00 and 18:00.

Galerija Dika (Dika Gallery)

WHITE AND GOLD - Bonnet exhibit and traditional peča headdress production

Peča is a traditional headscarf, the oldest and most widespread headdress in Slovenia. In the Middle Ages, the peča featured a plain design and was simply placed on the head; while at the end of the 19th century, designs began to feature intricate embroidery and expensive lace hemming. Women would tie the peča in various manners, the so-called "rooster style" (na petelina) being the most common. In Kamnik, the style of tying the peča was known as the "Kamnik flower" (kamniška roža). A bonnet featuring a gold or black woven front brim, or gold brocade, is a festive headdress worn by well-off women during the most important holidays. The most lavish bonnets were worn particularly by brides.

TRADITIONAL MUSIC INSTRUMENTS - Photo exhibition

With the help of CIOFF National Sections, including the Slovenian ZLTSS (Union of Slovene Folklore Groups), CIOFF Youth has joined forces to organise the Traditional Music Instruments exhibit. The exhibition presents traditional music instruments from 27 countries, complete with photographs and descriptions of the instruments in four languages, Slovenian, English, Spanish and French.

The exhibit opens Friday, 23 August, at 16:00. Visitors are invited to attend the exhibition until 20 September during Municipality of Kamnik business hours, i.e. Mondays 8:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00, Wednesdays 8:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00 and Fridays 8:00 to 13:00.

The epic by France Štiglic adapted after the novella and screenplay by Ciril Kosmač features actors with no previous training and Slovene stage actors in their very first film roles. The first Slovene sound feature film On Our Own Land was entered in 1949 as the first Slovenian (or Yugoslav) film into the Cannes Film Festival feature film competition.

The film focuses on the final two years of the liberation struggles in the Slovene Littoral during World War II. It begins with the arrival of German officer Kutschera to Baška grapa where he plans to eradicate the local "bandits". However, all of the villagers have sided with the resistance. The only person left hesitant is Drejc, who finally gives in due to his love for Tildica, a member of the partisan forces.

• Painted beehive panels: Maya the Bee will help children paint beehive panels, which are part of Slovenian cultural heritage.
• Eco bee: Children will create and name their own bees. The bees will be made from recycled materials. The bee symbolizes diligence and honesty.
• Beeswax artwork: From the bees, we'll borrow a bit of beeswax while children will attempt to create candles, animal sculptures etc., developing their motor skills as well imaginations.
• Large bee paintings: Children will paint large bee paintings for a gigantic art exhibition. The three best bee paintings will be nominated and awarded with delicious bee products.
• Making of flowers from colourful balloons: For every child, Tinka and Tonka the Bees will make a wonderful keepsake of the festival - a flower.

The queen bee has instructed her bees to tackle an abundance of responsibilities. While Tinka the Bee diligently collects honey, Tonka is up to nothing but mischief. Instead of gathering the sweet nectar, Tonka engages in frolicking and cavorting; and when it's time to deliver honey to the beehive, she "borrows" diligent Tinka's jar. Luckily, the children witness everything and let Tinka know about the thief. Next, Tinka sets up a trap to catch the crook.

Cold War, a film dedicated to the director's parents and inspired by their life stories, is a profoundly personal story of an impossible love in an impossible time riddled with music. At Cannes, the film by Academy Award winner Paweł Pawlikowski (Ida) won Best Director.
Wiktor and Zula meet in 1949 in the ruins of post-war Poland. Wiktor a classically trained musician searching for candidates for a state-sponsored folklore group, Zula a young singer who enchants him with her temperament and self-sufficient attitude. Even though it might appear they aren't meant to be, at the same time, they cannot exist without each other. The story follows their turbulent love affair from Poland into East Berlin, Yugoslavia and fifties' Paris jazz joints.
