around Ljubljana. A few highlights: The Koninklijk Ballet van Vlaanderen will satisfy dance purists with its performance "Impressing the Czar." This extraordinary piece is by William Forsythe, who started a revolution in the world of contemporary ballet 30 years ago. The piece is regarded as one of his key works, full of varying dance styles from classical ballet to breakdance. Though lacking a narrative, the action focuses with much humour on the history of Western civilization. If you are interested in the folk music of Upper Egypt, which draws its musical influences from the native tribes who inhabited the area before the arrival of Islam, then attend a concert by the Musicians of Nile. That literature can be adapted into dance as well, will be proven by PreSernovo gledaliSce Kranj, who will perform "Prinzesinnendramen" (drama princess), based on Elfriede Jelinek's story. One of the most innovative directors in Slovenia, Ivica Bauljan, tackled the text in his signature style: with a radical and daring theatrical approach, ignoring conventions. The result is an intriguing and challenging performance - for the actors and spectators alike. The British "dreamthinkspeak" will present "Don't Look Back," a piece akin to a live art installation, in which spectators will follow a carefully designated route in groups at 3 - 5 minute intervals. Wandering through castle premises, you will experience an array of sounds, shadows, whispers, musical fragments and film images. A former star of the Canadian company "La La La Human Steps", Louise Lecavalier will explore the vulnerability and strength of the body and soul in "The Remix," a collaboration with Ted Robinson (the artistic director of 10 Gates Dancing, Inc.). On the same evening Robyn Archer, a singer, writer and director who has performed throughout the world and is currently Artistic Director of the Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, will give a lecture titled "Rebel Capital" at Cankarjev dom Club. Compagnie Marie Chouinard will present "Body Remix/Goldberg Variations," a ballet in two acts. This virtuoso meditation on the beauty and frailty of the human body is a stunning homage to life. In the accompanying programme there will be many other events, including a Breakdance Event on the Trg Republike platform, a play for children about Martin Krpan, roundtables, lectures and talks by Viviane Muynuck, Mark Ravenhill, Maja Delak, Maja Kline and other performers.
