Revoz, with 2,621 employees, is the only car manufacturer in Slovenia and the largest Slovene exporter accounting for approximately 8% of all exports. The company, which is 100% owned by Renault, manufactures the Renault Clio II model which is mainly intended for the markets of the European Union. Last year the total number of Clios produced was 177,945, or approximately 700 cars a day. That means that a new car came off the assembly lines every 90 seconds! The cars are principally produced for export to Western European markets, with the domestic market taking an average of only 4% of total annual production. The Renault brand is by far the best-selling automobile brand in Slovenia. Last year the plant in Novo mesto contributed EUR 1.1 billion to Slovenian exports. They reported EUR 1.14 billion in revenues in 2005 and a net profit of EUR 36 million. The Revoz Company is entirely incorporated into the Renault system's Production Department, which connects all the company's European plants that manufacture passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. All projects introduced at the Production Department level are likewise introduced at the Revoz plant. In the future, the Revoz plant will focus on the production of the new X44 model, which will replace the model Twingo. Preparations for this are already in progress and a large part of planned investment, estimated at EUR 400 million, is earmarked for the project. This project (production is planned to start in 2007), and other new projects, will help Revoz to remain profitable in order to achieve international expansion. Since competition among countries for foreign investment is particularly fierce in the automobile sector, where Slovakia and the Czech Republic are the current leaders, the Slovenian government has decided to cooperate with Renault and Revoz in this new project. In 2004, they signed an agreement for EUR 40 million of state aid. The state has already contributed 30% of this. In return, Revoz will create 600 new jobs and increase the added value of the company from 17 to 32 percent. With the flexibility and efficiency of its employees, this plant aims to set a good example to other automobile assembly plants.
