The Mariborsko Pohorje ski centre boasts the largest number of skiers in Slovenia and the longest downhill night run in Europe. It has also been honoured with the Golden Snowflake Award as the best ski centre in Slovenia. The organisers of the Golden Fox pride themselves on having the least amount of thawing occur at the event. According to all FIS International standards, the organisation of the event is outstanding.

The large crowds that this competition draws contribute to the race's worldwide appeal. The spectators' excitement and cheering on of the competitors achieve in creating an incredible atmosphere around Pohorje. The nearby city centre of Maribor, Slovenia's second largest city, attracts visitors from near and far alike, increasing the allure of the competition.

The 56th Golden Fox competition as part of the Alpine Ski World Cup, which was supposed to take place on 15-16 February in Maribor, has been moved to the Kranjska Gora resort due to the unfavourable weather forecast.
