Večer says pension hike will leave pensioners poor still

Not only is everything becoming more expensive, pensioners still get 5.7% less than they would have if Slovenia had adjusted pensions to inflation as stipulated by the law, instead austerity measures were in place for years.

Politicians have been trying to avoid this issue. The debt to pensioners is not small, it amounts to EUR 300 million a year. Now, the issue will have to wait for the next government.

It goes against logic that pension expenditure is going down in Slovenia despite an increasing number of pensioners, the paper says under the headline State, Do You Know Your Debt?
