Festival of Mountaineering Film kicking off tonight

The productions from 20 countries will compete in four categories: mountaineering, climbing, mountain nature and culture, and mountains sports and adventure.

Apart from The Sweet Requiem, the festival features five other feature documentaries, including Weight of Water (2018, Canada) about a blind climber braving the Grand Canyon in his kayak alone, and Piano to Zanskar (2018, UK) a film about a piano tuner facing the most demanding delivery of his career.

The list also includes The Last Mountain (2019, Poland) about an attempt to climb the K2 in winter, Drommeland (2019, the Netherlands) about a man living alone in a hut in Norway and Cholitas (2018, Spain), a story about a group of Bolivian housewives who climb the highest peak of the Americas.

Women will be in the focus of several other films, among them shorts Isabella (2019, Switzerland), Far Away (2019, US), Daughters of Karakorum (2019, Germany) and Ani, the Nuns of Yaqen Gar.

The festival will also feature Slovenian productions Skiing the Fire Ring (2019), Latok 1 (2019) and Edspedition (2019).

The three-member judging panel will include director and journalist Vida Valenčič, photographer Rožle Bregar, and climber and former head of the American Alpine Club Jim Donini. Awards will be given out on Saturday.
