An assembly line for TV sets is scheduled for completion at the end of this year, with production slated to be launched in January 2021, the STA has learnt from Hisense Gorenje.

A total of 350 employees will work on the production line on average, with the actual number depending on demand.

The initial annual capacity will be 1.5 million TV sets, with output eventually expected to grow to four million units per year.

The TV plant will be owned by Hisense group, not Gorenje, but Gorenje workers will be given priority in hiring.

Current projections show Gorenje will lay off 322 workers in its existing production facilities, down from initial estimates of 544 layoffs.

Layoffs are also planned at other Hisense group companies in Slovenia, including its sheltered workshop, in-house catering arm Gorenje Gostinstvo and among back-office staff.

The plan is expected to be finalised by the end of next week.
