Environment minister welcomes EU climate law as key step
Climate change will play a significant role in the EU's economic recovery as the bloc aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
"In terms of this, the European Climate Law is an important step in building a predictable investment environment," he was quoted as saying in a press release by the Environment and Spatial Planning Ministry.
The ministerial focused on the European Green Deal and the measures it entails for the recovery of the EU's economy and to build a more resilient society, the press release said.
In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, all efforts must focus on economic recovery, with green and digital overhaul at the centre of these efforts, the ministry added.
Talking to his counterparts from other EU member states, Vizjak underlined the importance of the EU's circular economy action plan. The crisis has shown the importance of self-reliance, especially in waste management.
Therefore, he believes that the action plan should be used to boost the market of high-quality secondary goods, the minister was quoted as saying in the press release.
He also told the other EU ministers responsible for the environment that Slovenia welcomed additional funds for economic recovery, above all the fair transition fund.
Moreover, the minister believes that synergies between climate change goals and biodiversity goals will have to be found.
