Organic farms expanding in Slovenia
The number of farms that were involved in the system of control of organic production stood at about 3,830 in 2019, up by 2.3% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the number of farms in the process of conversion to organic production decreased by 21%.
The area intended for organic farming increased by some 2,790 hectares in 2019 or 7% up on 2018. Organic vineyards contributed the most to the increase.
Organic fruit production in 2019 was halved compared to 2018, totalling some 2,460 tonnes. The output was larger in the vineyards where it grew by as much as 46% to 2,200 tonnes, whereas olive plantations saw a 24% decline (420 tonnes).
Last year was also harder on organically grown vegetables; the yield was 2,1% lower than in 2018, but also almost 18% higher than in 2017.
The number of organic livestock in individual species mostly grew in 2019 year-on-year. Only the number of rabbits decreased by 14%. The organic farming meat total decreased by 20%.
The yield of organic cow's milk was some 7,350 tonnes, up 7% on 2018. Organic sheep milk was up by 4%, whereas the production of organic goat milk increased by as much as 47%.
The production of organic honey went down by more than 4%. On the other hand, the total of organic eggs increased by 8%.
