The contract was won by RSteam, a company with a sizeable portfolio of Slovenian mobile apps that is led by Primož Cigoj, a researcher at the Jožef Stefan Institute. One of its apps is CoronaLive, which monitors coronavirus statistics.

A total of six providers answered the Public Administration Ministry's call for bids and RSteam's offer was the cheapest.

Under the contract, the app must be localised by 1 August for mobile devices running on Android and IOS, the two largest mobile operating systems.

The app will be completely voluntary, although it was initially planned that it would have to be downloaded and installed by all persons with confirmed infections and those ordered to quarantine.
