The Outdoor Slovenia portal was presented on Tuesday by its operator Slovenia Outdoor, the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) and the Association of Mountain Resorts of Slovenia.

The STO said that outdoor tourism products combined trekking and cycling, services provided by mountain resorts, winter sports, water sports, golf, fly fishing and extreme sports.

"Travellers have started to avoid mass tourism and prefer individual and personalised experiences outdoors, which improves their health, and outdoor is gaining on importance," it added.

Slovenia Outdoor director Marko Lenarčič said that the portal presented outdoor products, providers, destinations and experiences which can already be booked through the national booking system.

Ski and mountain resorts also want to use the portal to promote their services, said Manuela Božič Badalič of the Association of Mountain Resorts, noting that a dozen of them operated throughout the entire year.

She pointed to cable car rides, theme parks, hiking trails, adventure sports, mountain biking, trekking to high-altitude resorts as something that should be especially attractive to tourists.

Some of the resorts offer special packages, including helicopter rides above Kanin, the highest ski resort in Slovenia. A majority of them boast diverse cuisine and some also provide accommodation.

"Slovenia is a safe green destination which offers many unique and authentic active experiences far removed from mass tourism," said Ana Savšek of the STO, adding that active holidays outdoor was precisely what many tourists wanted.
