Celje facing Irish champions Dundalk in first UEFA Champions League qualifier
Due to coronavirus restrictions - Slovenia is not not among green-listed countries in Ireland - the encounter will be decided in a single game on neutral turf. The game will be hosted by Hungary's Ujpest on 19 August.
Celje clinched their first ever national title on 23 July, while Dundalk have already had some international success, in particular in 2016/17, when they made it to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.
"Everybody is beatable at this level, but you can also be beaten by everybody. Given that we are novices, we have many things to learn," Celje head-coach Dušan Kosić commented on the draw.
"Public reactions suggest we are facing an easy task. But that's definitely not how we will approach things. We want to get to the next round, but we will need to deliver a perfect performance," he added.
In the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, the runners-up Maribor will meanwhile face the winner of the match-up between La Fiorita of San Marino and Coleraine FC of Northern Ireland.
The third-placed Olimpija Ljubljana will play Vikungur Reykjavik of Iceland, and the national cup winner Mura will take on Nomme Kalju of Estonia, with the first legs expectedly to be played on 27 August.
