The initiative, titled Corona Into Museum ASAP!, aims to provide an overview of what the pandemic meant for Ljubljana for future generations.

Citizens are thus invited to contribute depictions or objects that represent their new day-to-day life amid coronavirus concerns and restrictions, and bear witness to history.

The first phase of the project, which has been extended until the end of August, aims to gather digital material portraying the new reality.

So far, 55 persons have contributed some 1,000 photographs or video recordings. The museum has also received texts conveying the impressions of lockdown and the new normal.

The items are exhibited on the museum's web page. The institution will start collecting physical objects when the situation is more stable though.

The initial response was enthusiastic, but fewer people have been sending their contributions lately, with mostly professional photographs sharing their takes on the situation.

Such initiatives could be seen across museums worldwide since the start of the corona crisis. Moreover, museums have been capturing the feel of extreme circumstances and collecting relevant objects since their inception.

Corona is bound to be in the spotlight of future exhibitions, said the museum, adding that people had been mostly fascinated by images of empty streets or signs indicating closure of shops and cafes.

The museum has also received more personal commentaries on the situation than expected, with people grasping the opportunity to express themselves.
