Celje over first hurdle in Champions League qualifiers

In what was their first appearance in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers, Celje actually had to work hard to eliminate the Irish champions, which played the group stage of the second-tier Europa League in the 2016/17 season.

The first goal for the Slovenian champions came only at the end of the first half, with Luka Kerin scoring in the 43th minute.

It was a back-and-forth affair until the 89th minute, when Celje converted on a counter-attack through Dario Vizinger, and only a minute after that Filip Dangubić sealed the deal from close to the goal for the final score 3:0.

Celje has thus advanced in the shortened format of the UEFA Champions League and in the next round the club will host the Norwegian champions Molde at home next Wednesday.
