The paper urges investment that will contribute to raising productivity and will be environmentally sound.

The commentary, headlined Where are the Projects for Europe's Billions, warns against a scenario where the billions would get lost in a muddle of unconnected and poorly managed investments.

"It is also important not to repeat the mistake from the past, when public funds for investment were distributed according to party lines, meaning political criteria and affiliations," says the paper, calling for social consensus, "in particular regarding the biggest and long-term projects, such as strategic investment in energy and transport infrastructure".

It is time for investment that will contribute the most to raising productivity and will at the same be environmentally sustainable. This is the only way to reduce Slovenia's development gap to countries it wants to compare itself to and boost general prosperity.
