Parliament taking on revised budget for 2020
The supplementary budget, envisaged as part of a March emergency act that gave the government wide discretion in the management of budget funds, raises expenditure by EUR 3 billion or 29% to EUR 13.39 billion while revenue is planned at EUR 9.2 billion, almost 15% below the currently valid budget.
The proposal earmarks EUR 2.6 billion, or 19% of all expenditure, for measures meant to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
Instead of a small surplus, Slovenia will thus record a deficit not seen since the economic and financial crisis, but this was expected and is in line with the trend in the EU.
The parliamentary debate will start today on the Justice Committee and continue with four more committees before the potentially amended proposal is scrutinised by the Finance Committee, expectedly on Saturday.
The plenary discussion is scheduled for the National Assembly session starting on 21 September.
