To mention just a few of the upcoming attractions: the 15th ITF World Taekwon-Do Championships is set to attract over 900 competitors and officials from seventy countries to Bled between 25th and 29th April. Although sportsmen and women probably avoid drinking, at least to excess, it shouldn't deter them or anyone else arriving earlier in the month to watch the 29th Bled Cup and help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Slovenian Barkeepers Union. The international cocktail mixing competition is being held in conjunction with the 16th National Drink Mixing Championships in a town noted for its bar staff - in 2002 it also hosted the World Barman Championships. As the first place that most visitors to the country are taken, it should come as no surprise that the United Nations World Tourist Organization chose Bled to hold its 46th Session of the Regional Commission for Europe, which comes to town in May.
