His ministry is drafting a bill on comprehensive transport planning which will prioritise sustainable mobility, providing for long-term and systematic implementation of sustainable mobility measures.

The bill will address systemic and targetted financing for sustainable mobility measures, support for transport strategies, and integration of spatial and transport planning. It will moreover address transport management to make transport more effective, the ministry said in a press release.

The ministry plans to further allocate cohesion funds for infrastructure for passengers and cyclists, for public transport stations and stops and for park and ride (P+R) systems, Vrtovec said.

He stressed preparations for the coming period of European cohesion policy were already under way. "With the help of cohesion funds we want to continue in the 2021-2027 period the process we are planning now."

Sustainable mobility is not important just for reducing emissions, dense traffic and accidents, but also for health, he stressed.

He also announced enhanced financing of alternative fuels and tools for more effective transport management. "But most of all we will focus our efforts on improving public transport in Slovenia."
