"The SDS will constructively participate in preserving the good relations between Slovenia and Croatia," the party wrote on its website, stressing that the as yet only hypothetical election victory did no put in a position to adopt any stances on relations with Croatia.

"The SDS is responsible party that respects international treaties even if they are not to its liking," the party responded to concerns that it could undermine the implementation of the border arbitration deal with Croatia or block the ratification of Croatia's EU accession treaty until a favourable arbitration outcome.

On the other hand, the SDS remains critical of "politics lacking credibility", pointing to the 2001 Drnovsek-Racan border agreement, which the Croatian parliament failed to ratify.

Yet it highlighted that it has always supported a European future for Croatia and other former Yugoslav republics.

"Despite of everything stated, the SDS is of course concerned about that current of Croatia politics that wants to exclude Slovenia from Adriatic politics and economy - it is this current that we are resisting."
