Ljubljana - Slovenia's goods exports dropped by 0.3% year-on-year to EUR 2.958 billion in September as imports fell by 12.1% to EUR 2.642 billion. Despite the fall, the September exports figure is the second highest in the past decade, data from the Statistic Office show.

Meanwhile, Slovenia's exports in the first nine months of 2020 declined by 3.8% on the same period in 2019 to EUR 24.2 billion, and imports feel by 9.1% to EUR 22.9 billion, the office noted.

Both values of exports and imports were lower in September year-on-year due to a decline in trade with EU member states. Exports there fell by 4% to EUR 1.986 billion and imports decreased by 10.3% to EUR 1.943 billion.

Slovenia generated 67.1% of all exports and 73.6% of all imports in September in the EU.

On the other hand, trade with non-EU countries was on the rise in regard to exports and saw a decline regarding imports. Exports increased by 8.2% to EUR 972.1 million and imports slumped by 16.8% to EUR 698.7 million.

External trade in goods saw a surplus again in September, totalling EUR 316.4 million, after a deficit in August. The export/import ratio was at 112. In the past ten years, Slovenia has mostly recorded surplus in the month of September, and this year's is record high.

Merchandise trade in the January-September period generated a surplus of EUR 1.282 billion. The export/import ratio stood at 105.6.
