Some 54% of the R&D funds were allocated for the aim of general advancement of knowledge, excluding university funds, followed by R&D in industrial production and technology, which were allotted 16.3% of the total funds.

In comparison to the 2009 data, funds were reduced for social and political systems, structures and processes, and for defence, while more funds went for R&D in transport, telecommunications and other infrastructure, and for culture, recreation religion and media, the Statistics Office said.
