Industrial Output Up 1.3%

In August, industrial output rose in manufacturing (0.1%) and electricity, gas and steam supply (5.5%), while it dropped in mining and quarrying (3.7%).

At the yearly level, industrial output however increased only in electricity, gas and steam supply (11.9%), while it decreased in mining and quarrying and manufacturing by 18.3% and 2.5%, respectively.

Industrial output was lower in mining and quarrying in the first eight months of 2011 than in the same period last year, while it was higher in manufacturing and electricity, gas and steam supply.

As regards the main industrial groupings, industrial output was up in intermediate goods industries (2.5%) and in capital goods industries (1.1%) at the monthly level, but it decreased by 2% in consumer goods industries.

The annual comparison also shows that industrial output was higher in intermediate goods industries (0.6%) and in capital goods industries (0.7%), but dropped 5.8% in consumer goods industries.

In the first eight months of 2011, output rose in all the three groupings compared to the same period last year.
