Ljubljana - Eleven winemakers from the coastal region of Primorska will be presenting their orange wine at one of the largest wine exhibitions this year, the Wine to Asia trade fair, in China on Friday.

The pandemic has put a stop to numerous such events, however life in China has largely returned to normal. Wine to Asia will take place in the coastal city of Shenzhen in southern China near Hong Kong.

The Slovenian group to be featured includes winemakers Batič, Burja and Guerila from the Vipava Valley, Emeran Reya, Marjan Simčič and Movia from Goriška Brda, and Bordon, Korenika&Moškon, Polič, Rojac and Zaro from Slovenian Istria.

The trade fair is held by the Verona-based Vinitaly and will, apart from Slovenia, feature wine from Spain, Italy, France, Chile, Germany and China.

The Slovenian presentations will be the first of their kind in China, the organisers have said, adding that there is a great interest in orange wine or skin-contact white wine hailing from the three Slovenian wine-growing regions.

The showcase could be a stepping stone to a breakthrough in China's wine market as well as a chance to display the highlights of the scenic regions, the organisers said, with Wine to Asia director Simone Incontro expressing satisfaction at Slovenia's participation and promotion of natural winemaking.
