Next stimulus package to continue focusing on job preservation
Ljubljana - Prime Minister Janez Janša has indicated the next stimulus package would continue to focus on job preservation and would be targeted at those who have not benefited from previous rounds of stimulus.
"We think it is cheaper to preserve employment that to have an affected economy with lower income paying lower wages and lower taxes while needing to provide money for the unemployed," he told Planet TV Tuesday evening.
He said some of the emergency measures from previous packages that targeted the most vulnerable groups would be repeated.
Funds will be allocated to some industries that have so far not been targetted, including sports, hotels and retail.
Pensioners - who received one-off payments in spring - are to receive help again.
The government just recently adopted the sixth stimulus package and sent it to parliament. These measures would form a part of package number seven.
Janša said previous measures, including furlough subsidies, short-time work and payment of contributions, had helped save around 150,000 jobs. "A lot of these measures have already been or will be introduced in the second wave."
