According to the ministry, UNESCO's goal is to contribute to world peace and security by supporting cooperation in education, science, culture and international communication.

After unsuccessful international talks whether to postpone the vote until a decision is made on the Palestinian membership in the UN, the vote in UNESCO took place today, admitting Palestinians to the organisation with 107 votes in favour, 14 against, and 52 abstentions.
