Davos - Slovenia's Anamarija Lampič finished second in the women's sprint event in the Cross-Country World Cup in Switzerland's Davos on Saturday. She came within a whisker of winning the race, but had to concede to US Rosie Brennan.

The third place went to Russia's Natalija Neprjajeva.

Lampič, crossing the finish line only 0.28 second after the winner, was successful in outperforming Switzerland's Nadine Fähndrich in the last stages of the race but fell short of beating Brennan.

Another Slovenian participant in the race, Eva Urevc, finished sixth.

Lampič, Slovenia's top cross-country skier, has so far bagged three World Cup wins in this event.
