Lanišek wins bronze at Nordic World Ski Championships
Oberstdorf - Slovenia's ski jumper Anže Lanišek won the bronze medal on the normal hill at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf on Saturday. Gold went to Polish Piotr Zyila, while German Karl Geiger was second.
Touching down at 102.5 metres in the first round, Lanišek was in place two before the second round, lagging three points behind Zyla in first place.
Lanišek's second jump was 1.5 metres shorter and he lost a spot, with Geiger jumping 102 metres and taking the silver medal.
Lanišek ended the competition with 261.5 points, 7.3 fewer than Zyla and 3.7 fewer than Geiger.
This is the fourth podium overall for team Slovenia at the Nordic ski worlds and the third for ski jumpers.
Ski jumper Ema Klinec won gold on the normal hill and the women's ski jumping team won silver on the normal hill in the team event. Cross country skier Anamarija Lampič won bronze in sprint.
