Ljubljana - Slovenia saw another 770 people test positive for coronavirus on Thursday, to push the 7-day average of new cases to 689, data released by the government show. Eight patients with Covid-19 died.

Of the 5,222 PCR tests performed yesterday 14.7% came back positive. In addition, 25,447 rapid antigen tests were performed.

The number of patients hospitalised with Covid-19 fell by 16 to 437 this morning after 42 patients were discharged yesterday. The number of patients in intensive care units dropped by six to 84.

For Slovenia to move to a lower, yellow tier of coronavirus restrictions, the 7-day average of new daily cases would have to fall below 600 after Covid hospitalisations have already dropped below 500.

The cumulative 14-day incidence per 100,000 residents is at 490, data from the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ) show.

Slovenia has so far confirmed 199,002 coronavirus cases, of which 10,304 are still deemed active infections, according to NIJZ.

Data from the tracker site covid-19.sledilnik.org put the death toll at 3,926, although NIJZ data, which are published weekly, show that more than 4,000 people with Covid-19 had died by last Sunday.

By Thursday 160,685 people in Slovenia have received their first vaccine jab and 76,573 have been fully immunised with two.
