Pahor, who has been in hospital due to inflammation of the middle ear since Monday, said in a letter presented at Thursday's meeting of the SD presidency that the party would not have sufficient influence in a coalition with Jankovic.

Pahor is also concerned about the "non-transparent and strong influence of Jankovic's political advisors", and is afraid that the SD will have no influence on those relations.

He moreover said that it would be naive to think that "certain conditions in the coalition agreement or a higher number of ministerial posts" would secure the desired influence of the SD, commercial TV station Kanal A quoted Pahor's letter.

The party must however do everything to make sure that a new government is formed as soon as possible due to the situation at home and abroad, Pahor added.

He added that President Danilo Tuerk, who is to consult the parliamentary parties about the candidate for the PM-designate, must be told that the SD would do everything to allow the new government to work, either as a member of the opposition or coalition.

Vlacic said on the sidelines of today's meeting of the party's presidency that the SD presidency had empowered the negotiating team to continue continue talks with Jankovic, adding that no final decisions had been made yet.
