Farewell to Euroleague
The Russian team had already qualified for Europleague's top 16 but nevertheless played with more motivation tonight, leaving Olimpija with only one win, secured at home on 2 November against Asseco Prokom Gdynia.
The winner was already decided in the first quarter, which the guests won with 25:11. By the end of the first half, Olimpija only managed to reduce Kazan's lead by two points (41:29).
The guests kept their lead throughout the third quarter, making the last period a formality. The US guard Henry Domercant was the leading scorer for UNICS Kazan with 16 points.
This was one of the worst Euroleague seasons for Olimpija ever as the Ljubljana club repeated its dismal result in the 2009/10 season.
The club recently lost five core players over non-payment of salaries and its bare survival has been in focus instead of play.
Head coach Saso Filipovski and the management are trying to bring a new name to Ljubljana, but according to Filipovski the pool of free agents on the market is rather modest.
